May is Small Business Month, and we are highlighting local closely held businesses throughout the month to celebrate the business and the entrepreneurs that run them. We are kicking it off with Xenhouse, owned by Desmond K. Hinds, Alex Joseph, Ross Bertrand, and Richard Rodriguez. We asked Desmond K. Hinds a few questions to learn more about Xenhouse and his journey to entrepreneurship. Here's what he had to say:
When did you start your business?
We officially started Xenhouse in June of 2021 but we’ve been working on this business for 4 years before that.
Can you describe your business? What do you do and how do you do it?
At XenHouse, our mission is to get you the maximum physical, mental and emotional results. We have a commitment to excellence that is unseen - the training mindset of “What’s done in the dark will come to the light.” We offer training that will advance the Mind, Body and Soul!
XenHouse, derived from the Greek word Xenodochial, meaning “friendly to strangers” which can include helping strangers, is designed to be a house of helping strangers reach greatness physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
What motivated you to start your own business?
Ever Since we were young adults we've talked about starting our own business. We wanted a business that would help people and give back to the community! The thing that motivated us the most was watching our hard working parents provide for us growing up. They laid out the blueprint of what it takes to "go get it".
What makes your business stand out from others?
First and foremost we are family. We don't just train athletes and send them on their way. We show up to practices/games and show support as well! Along with our physical training, we also train the mind to create successful habits and break bad ones that'll help lead clients to the best version of themselves.
What is your favorite part about owning and operating your business?
Our favorite part about owning XenHouse would have to be seeing other people adapt our morals/philosophies/beliefs, applying them to their lives/sports and seeing the desired results.
