As the Director of Financial Planning for KM Capital Group Kathleen Keegan works with our advisors and clients seeking to develop custom tailored plans that will last generations. As the founder of K-M Capital her story started as a teacher and a student.
Kathleen earned her B.S. and M.A. at Hofstra University in New York. She is a Certified Financial Planner since 1988 and past president and chairman of the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association of Long Island. She was a member of the Board of Directors from 1989 - 2004.
Ms. Keegan has been on the "Money Hotline" for USA Today and was a participant in the Daily News Personal Financial Hotline. In addition, Ms. Keegan lectures to various groups, including the AARP's Women's Financial Information Program.
After a decade of teaching secondary school, Ms. Keegan decided to make a career change. In 1983, she wanted to become more knowledgeable about money and embarked on a long journey into the world of financial services. After receiving initial training in life insurance, Kathleen was hired by Shearson Lehman Bros and would eventually become an independent financial planner in 1988. In January of 1993, Kathleen founded the corporation of K-M Capital Inc. She wanted to be able to offer her services as a LPL Investment Advisor Representative and to act in a fiduciary focused capacity.
Kathleen began in this business to learn the language of financial planning and to understand the way that money is managed and how to reasonably grow earned money in a safe and consistent manner. She used her skills as a teacher to become a "financial translator" to the people who sought her help. She says, “My career was designed to help and encourage people to learn to save and invest for a comfortable future. I am happy to say that there are many families that have started to invest with me in the 80's and now include their children and grandchildren. To me, to see the progression of the generations that are saving and investing is heartwarming.”
Ms. Keegan’s passion is travelling the globe as she has been to over 90 countries. Each trip she takes is a lesson in the uniqueness and the similarities of mankind.
